About us

Unchain Dog HK  is a Volunteer-initiated group dedicated to the well-being of animals. We aim to raise public awareness about the plight of animals in various situations — including caged and chained dogs in Hong Kong, as well as farm animals, animals used for entertainment, stray animals, and companion animals.

We believe that everyone can be a volunteer — each person can be the first to step forward and help the chained dogs around them.

We are honoured to have Hong Kong Animal Post as our media partner for this initiative. Their support helps us bring greater attention to the issue of chained dogs and allows more people to hear the voices and needs of animals.

Ching

Ching, founder of Unchain Dog HK, is a longtime journalist with a focus on animal issues. She has been active in promoting animal rights, previously founding the 'Low-Cost Fur Concern Unit' and publishing the children's book Piggy's New Life to raise awareness.

A few years ago, after moving to a rural area, she saw an elderly neighbour keeping a dog on a chain. Hoping to improve the dog's life, she reached out to help. Realising this was a common issue in Hong Kong—and one shared by places like Singapore and Taiwan — she went on to found Unchain Dog HK.

Carmen

Carmen has loved animals since childhood, raising her first dog in primary school. Now living with two dogs and four cats, she was deeply moved in 2024 after witnessing a village dog, 'Wong Jai,' chained in harsh conditions from puppyhood. Through this case, she met Siu Ching, founder of Unchain Dog HK, and took her first step in helping chained dogs. She joined the group to speak up for these often-overlooked animals and to promote change through owner dialogue and public education.

Him

Ah Him, a professional dog trainer, has participated in animal rescue work with various organisations. After the passing of his own dog, he was inspired to learn how to better connect with animals and became a trainer to help change their lives.

Through rescue work, he saw many chained dogs living in poor conditions — often worse than strays. He joined Unchain Dog HK to improve their lives through training, education, and public awareness.
